“I want to thank and pay tribute to all of our volunteers — those dedicated people who believe in all work and no pay.” – Robert Orben
There are many opportunities at Monarch School for volunteers to make a difference. If you are ready to help some of San Diego’s most resilient kids, we want you on our team.
From tutoring in the Academic Support Program in the afternoon to helping with clothing days, there is a role for everyone here at the school.
All volunteers, including family dinner volunteers, must be over the age of 18 and out of high school. This policy was put into place to respect the wishes and privacy of our students. Anyone spending time with our kids on a regular basis must also be thoroughly screened – that includes finger-printing, a TB test and background checks – to ensure the kids’ safety.
We respectfully ask that you carefully consider your appropriate level of commitment. Many of our kids have been abandoned; we are striving to provide them with caring, consistent support. Once you let us know your capabilities, we will do our best to find a mutually beneficial arrangement that suits your level of commitment.
The first step to volunteering is attending a new volunteer orientation. New volunteer orientations are held the first Tuesday of every month from 12:00-1:00 at Monarch School.
You can sign-up and RSVP by making a profile on at monarchschools.volunteerhub.com and clicking the event on the calendar. During the orientation we will be going over the mission and vision of Monarch School, specific opportunities for involvement followed by a brief tour of the school. Once you have attended the orientation you will begin the conversation with our volunteer coordinator of matching your availability and expertise with the current needs of the school.
