Newton Ave

Thank you for joining us at our groundbreaking in February! Over 350 community members joined us in a standing-room-only crowd with guests including Mayor Jerry Sanders, County Supervisor Greg Cox, San Diego County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Randolph Ward, and several members of the San Diego City Council. Guests toured the building guided by student docents, staff and community volunteers. A ceremony held in the future gymnasium featured a Monarch senior who spoke about his experience with homelessness, and how Monarch has helped him on the path toward high school graduation and plans for college.

Another highlight: Farmers Insurance presented a $100,000 contribution to our capital campaign to Ronne Froman, president of Monarch’s board of directors.

Our plans for moving forward include the sale of our current site on Cedar Street and the purchase of the Newton property in mid-April, when escrow closes. We expect to begin construction in May and plan to move to our new campus in early 2013.
